Going into the vibrant atmosphere of the YLS 2021 summer drinks event, I was enveloped in a tapestry of laughter, chatter and the clinking of glasses. The anticipation was palpable as I made my way through the electric crowd unsure of what to expect but eager to make the most of the experience and have a great night out.
With a drink in my hand, I quickly joined a group of people who were the YLS committee at that time. They were very friendly and welcoming and explained to me who YLS were and what they did. I was amazed at what I heard and wanted to be a part of this amazing group.
As the night passed I was introduced to more and more people who were either YLS volunteers or former YLS committee members, each with their own stories and experiences which left a lasting impression, reinforcing the sense of belonging and community that defines YLS.
Leaving the event, I had found a new sense of connection and realised that this was just the beginning of my YLS journey. With other events to look forward to I anticipated the next opportunity to be a part of another YLS event.
